In the drip method a premeasured amount of meat is heated and the mixture of fat and water are collected in a glass tube and then the amount of fat is measured volumetrically. If the user miss measures the initial sample weight or volume the results are affected tremendously. The drip methods use reusable glass vials introducing possibility of errors in your final results. In today’s modern meat production facilities use of glass are limited for safety reasons. Use of a drip method of measuring fat similar to Hobart and Univex fat testers are limited to minimum fat content of 20% and below this limit the results are not accurate, this is why the manufacturer recommend running the test three times and averaging the results. The results must be recorded manually in a log sheet with the possibility of miss recording.
